Background

Literacy, among adults and children, in parts of DC are far below national averages, with 74% of children reading below grade-level benchmarks. Research links access to books at home with improved literacy — even when controlling for other factors, such as income. (See, e.g., these reports from We Act Radio’s Education Town Hall.) CMCB Free Library locations bring books to some of the neighborhoods most in need of help in building home libraries.
